QuickChange® Moveable Barrier
The QuickChange® Moveable Barrier is a continuous concrete barrier that rolls up a conveyor system and moves through a specially designed barrier transfer machine in an elongated S curve configuration. It is then lowered back to the pavement in the same manner in its new position, providing positive barrier protection.
Suitable for both temporary and permanent use, the QMB is designed to cost-effectively increase capacity and reduce congestion by making more efficient use of new or existing roadways. The concrete barrier is crash tested to NCHRP 350 Test Level 3 (100km/h).
The QMB has affectionately been nicknamed the "Zipper" since its Australian debut on Victoria Road, Sydney for the new Inner West Busway.
Features and Benefits
• Congestion relief.
• Improved air quality.
• Safer roadways.
• Improve highway capacity by utilising existing infrastructure.
• Reusable asset.
• Reduces construction time and cost.
• Facilitates more efficient construction.
• Improve tidal flow by providing an extra lane during peak hours.
Where to use QuickChange® Moveable Barrier
• Short or long term construction works.
• High volume roadways where right-of-way may not be available.
• Where environmental concerns may exist.
• Where a lack of funding may be slow or inhibit support for new construction.
• Moveable median - reconfigure existing lanes to maximise peak capacity while maintaining positive barrier separation (bridges, tunnels, expressways with limited right-of-way, city streets and thoroughfares with high directional flows).
• Contraflow lanes - reconfigure existing lanes from the unused capacity in the off-peak direction to maximise peak "through put" while maintaining positive barrier separation (roads with directional flow, highways with fixed medians or on dual structures, roads with limited expansion).
Why use QuickChange® Moveable Barrier?
• Moveable barrier technology provides a quick and cost-effective solution for highway capacity improvements without having to wait for time consuming study reviews.
• A reuseable asset that can be moved to other locations when no longer needed.
• Provides positive barrier protection between workers and traffic, increasing safety.
• Barrier can be moved from shoulder to median to provide extra work space.
• Relatively quiet, with little to no noise disruption to nearby residents.
• Larger equipment can be used easily onsite.
